This article will show you how to create a Facebook app and get the app ID and app secret code from it. If you wish to use Facebook social, like, login button on your website, then you will need these app ID and secret code. In order to create a Facebook application, you will need your own Facebook account. So, If you do not have a Facebook account then go to http://www.facebook.com and create a free account before start the article.
Now follow the below steps to create a Facebook app ID and get the app ID and secret key from it.
Step 1: Login to your Facebook and go to the Facebook developers site
After login to your Facebook account, you need to go to the Facebook developers site http://developers.facebook.com
Step 2: Register as a developer
To create a Facebook application you need to register yourself as a developer first. To do that click on Apps -> Register as a Developer link. Follow the procedure and complete the registration process.
Step 3: Create a Facebook App ID
To create a new Facebook App ID, click on the My Apps link in the top right corner of the web page and choose Add a new App.
Step 4: Enter display name and contact email
In this step you have to enter a display name which will be displayed to everyone, display name may contain blank spaces. Another thing is required, that is a contact email id. After filling the form save it by click on the Create App ID button. Walla! your first Facebook App is just created. Now you will be redirected to the Dashboard page of this newly created Facebook App.
Step 5: Choose Platform
On the Dashboard page click on the Choose platform link to specify where your app will be used. For example, if you want to use your app for Facebook share, like or login button in website then you should choose Website as platform.
Step 5: App Settings
Click on the Settings option from the left sidebar menu. Here you can find some text boxes which need to be fill up with proper data.
Step 5: Add Platform
Once again you need to add the platform where your app will be used. For that click on the Add Platform link which is in the bottom of the Settings page. Here, you have to specify the Site URL. For example, http://localhost/mit-demos/mtb-test/.
Step 5: Make the App Public
The last step of your Facebook App is to make the App public. For that click on the App Review option in the left sidebar menu. After that click on the first button just below the line Make App Public?
